Passports and Visas

When you travel overseas make sure you have a valid passport and other documentation required to satisfy country entry requirements. Depending on your passport nationality and destination, additional requirements may include visas, return or onward tickets and sufficient funds for your stay.

If your travel documentation is incomplete or inadequate you will not be allowed to board the aircraft at the start of your journey. To avoid any inconvenience, please check that you meet the requirements for your destination(s) as well as any countries you will pass through in transit.

Government Travel Advice

The New Zealand Government issues safety warnings for countries with identifiable risks for New Zealand travellers. Visit the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade website to find out more.

Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend travel insurance for the entire time you plan to be overseas. Your policy should cover emergency medical situations, baggage loss or damage, and expenses incurred from disrupted travel plans.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations and other medical precautions are needed for travel to some countries, and are easily obtained through your doctor. Have them well before you leave to allow time to recover from any side effects.

Requesting Seating

You may request particular seating when you make your booking, and we will do our best to satisfy your request, circumstances allowing. Groups and families are seated together where possible, and special attention is given to the seating of elderly travellers, people with disabilities or special medical needs, and people travelling with children.

Requesting Special Meals

Air New Zealand offers a choice of 22 special meals on our long-haul international flights for customers with specific religious, ethnic or dietary requirements. Long-haul flights include those to and from the United States, the United Kingdom, Asia, Perth and Tahiti. For customers travelling on flights between New Zealand and Australia (excluding Perth), the Cook Islands, Fiji, Norfolk Island, Samoa and Tonga, a dairy-free vegetarian meal is the only special meal option available.

All special meals requests must be made to Air New Zealand earlier than 24 hours before departure. Please note, while we make every effort to provide the requested meal there may be circumstances when this is not possible.

If you need meals at specific times for medical reasons, please let the Flight Attendants know soon after you have boarded and they will make the necessary arrangements. If you have a serious food allergy, please see Allergy Alert.

What if plans change?

If your travel plans change, no matter how late, please let Air New Zealand or your travel agent know immediately. Someone else may need a seat, and your call could make the difference! Sometimes changes to your travel plans are unavoidable. Depending on when such changes are made and your ticket type, associated cancellation or change penalties may or may not apply.
